WHY MAKE COMPOST?
There are many reasons to make your own
compost. First of all if you have a garden
and aren't currently making compost you are
making a mistake. As consumers we all create
waste. Much of this waste is great for
making compost. If you are throwing your
organic waste away you are adding to the
current landfill situation. By utilizing
your organic waste you are recycling and
this is very good for the environment. If
everybody composted their organic waste just
think of the landfill space we would be
saving. |
COMPOST IS ORGANIC
More and more people are learning the
benefits of organic gardening. Organic
fruits and vegetables are so much more
healthy for us. Organic fruit and vegetable
juices are actually being used as cancer
medicine with an impressive track record.
Many educated people believe organic foods
are a serious link to health. The true value
of organic food is highly underestimated by
most people. |

COMPOST SAVES
MONEY
Compost is almost free. The initial cost of
a composting machine is minimal compared to
the benefits and will pay for itself in no
time. If you have a little ingenuity you
could even make your own composting machine.
Making compost saves money in other ways
also. When our landfills become full it
costs more to throw garbage away. The
people in your community who generate their
own compost are helping keep your taxes
lower, and doing something great for the
planet. As gardeners we should strive to be
a green as possible. Making our own compost
can only be a positive thing financially and
for the environment. |
|
|
|
It also makes your
vegetables grow big and taste great. Compost
also contains a high concentration of
nutrients so you don't have to buy
fertilizers as often or at all in some
cases.

EXCELLENT SOIL AMENDMENT
Compost helps holds moisture in sand based
soils and helps loosen clay based soil.
Putting compost in your soil also improves
structure and aeration. Compost contains
microbes and microorganisms that improve
root development and break down nutrients
making them readily available for quick
intake. Compost releases organic nitrogen,
potassium, and phosphorus which adds to your
gardens fertility. This helps plants grow
bigger and healthier improving production
and disease resistance.
CONCLUSION
Compost is natures own fertilizer. It's
organic, cheap and making it helps improve
our environment. |
It gives us pride knowing we are doing
what we can to improve our health and improve
the environment for future generations. The real
question should be; Why not make compost?
